Body Lift

Comprehensive body contouring surgery designed to remove excess skin around the abdomen, hips, lower back and buttocks following significant weight change.

What is a body lift?

A body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy or circumferential abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from around the lower torso.

It is most commonly considered following significant weight loss, when loose skin may remain around the abdomen, waist, hips, lower back and buttocks despite a stable weight.

Unlike an abdominoplasty, which primarily treats the front of the abdomen, a body lift extends around the torso. Excess skin and tissue are removed and the remaining tissues are carefully repositioned to improve the contour of the abdomen, waist, lower back and buttocks.

Where required, abdominal muscle separation may also be repaired as part of the procedure.

Dr Katie-Beth Webster will assess the distribution of excess skin, your previous surgery, weight stability and overall health before developing an individualised surgical plan.

Is body lift surgery right for me?

A body lift may be considered if you have:

  • significant loose or hanging skin following substantial weight loss

  • excess skin extending around the abdomen, waist and lower back

  • sagging tissue around the hips or buttocks

  • skin folds that cause chafing, irritation or hygiene difficulties

  • maintained a relatively stable weight following weight loss or bariatric surgery

  • concerns affecting multiple areas of the lower torso rather than the abdomen alone

Because body lift surgery is extensive, your general health, nutrition, weight stability, smoking status and ability to recover safely are particularly important considerations.

During your consultation, Dr Webster will assess whether your concerns can be addressed with a body lift or whether a more limited procedure may be appropriate.

What you can expect

Body lift surgery is a significant procedure and requires careful planning before, during and after surgery. Your treatment plan will consider the distribution of excess skin, your general health and weight-loss history, as well as the practical requirements of recovery.

Why choose Dr Katie-Beth Webster?

As a specialist plastic surgeon, Dr Katie-Beth Webster provides detailed assessment and individualised planning for body lift surgery following significant weight change.

Body lift surgery requires careful consideration of excess skin across multiple areas of the lower torso, as well as the patient's overall health, previous surgery and ability to recover from an extensive procedure.

Dr Webster will assess these factors together and explain the proposed surgical approach, scar placement, recovery requirements, risks and limitations before proceeding.

Where multiple areas are affected following weight loss, she can also discuss whether treatment should be staged across more than one procedure.
