Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Overview
A breast lift reshapes and elevates sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissue. It restores a more youthful contour and higher position of the breasts without necessarily changing their size. It can be performed alone or combined with augmentation or reduction depending on aesthetic goals.

Who It’s For

  • Sagging or drooping breasts due to ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss

  • Flattened or elongated breast shape

  • Nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease

  • Breast asymmetry requiring elevation or reshaping

Procedure

  • Performed under general anaesthesia

  • Incisions depend on the degree of lift required:

    • Periareolar (around the areola): mild sagging

    • Vertical (lollipop): moderate sagging

    • Inverted-T (anchor): significant sagging or skin excess

  • The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, natural level

  • Excess skin is removed, and breast tissue is reshaped for improved projection and firmness

  • Sutures are placed to refine contour and support healing

Recovery

  • Usually day surgery or one-night stay

  • Swelling, bruising, and tightness for 1–2 weeks

  • Return to light activity within a week; avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 4–6 weeks

  • Support bra worn continuously to maintain shape during healing

Results and Scarring

  • Immediate lifting effect with continued refinement over several months

  • Scars fade progressively and are positioned to be concealed under most clothing

  • Longevity depends on skin quality, weight stability, and pregnancy history

Risks

  • Bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing

  • Temporary or permanent nipple sensation changes

  • Asymmetry or minor contour irregularities

  • Recurrent drooping over time due to ageing or weight fluctuation

Long-Term Considerations
Results are long-lasting but not immune to gravity or natural ageing. Maintaining stable weight and good skin quality helps preserve the outcome. Routine breast checks should continue as recommended.
